Seems to us like spring sprang kind of suddenly this year.  That probably means that before we know it, it’ll be full-on summer. Like, in the blink of an eye it’ll be 90 degrees and the only un-air conditioned place in the city where you’ll be able to relax in tranquility will be at the beach, preferably right up at the water’s edge, catching a nice sea breeze that’ll shave just the right number of points off the thermometer to transport you from miserable to perfect.

That little beach daydream just might be on the verge of exploding into a full-blown fantasy. Just in case you haven’t heard, there have been all kinds of cra-zay rumors swirling around about some sorta-secret plans to transform the traditionally underwhelming Rockaway boardwalk food lineup into an all-star team of local good food heavy hitters.

Ready for this? Reports are talking a Rockaway Taco ceviche and torta stand, a Meat Hook burger and dog spot, a fish sandwich shack powered by Roberta’s, a mystery offering from Vinegar Hill House, and a rolling cart featuring Anton Nocito’s P&H Soda Co.’s all-natural fizzy refreshments. And more. Oh, and beer and liquor licenses are supposedly in the works as well, you know – just to help wash everything down.

I mean, seriously? Shouldn’t this story be hogging the ‘Happening Now’ ticker on CNN? OK OK, we’ll try to keep our total stoked-ness at bay at least until after the tulips are gone, but this does make us think that maybe we should start with the morning situps again if we’re gonna be hanging at the beach all summer…

Grubstreet has all the juicy details.

And we couldn’t resist adding a few more of these vintage beach picks:

  1. I also remember with nostalgia a similar Food Concessions I witnessed 20 years back. It was fun and there were lots of food varieties and people from different places were all there… Those food concession pictures of 1940 are beautiful way to show what the past was in the mobile food concession industry. Thank you for posting, Peter!
