scratchbreadWe don’t hide the fact that we’re big fans of Matthew Tilden’s SCRATCHbread project. Matthew is a talented and passionate baker with a unstoppable drive to bring kickass breads to the masses.

SCRATCHbread secured a home in Bed-Stuy a couple of months ago. Their goal is to give back to their new community by offering great bread at wholesale prices from their kitchen’s walk-up window, to open the kitchen to the neighborhood with youth-oriented educational programs, and of course to bring some of the best bread anywhere to Brooklyn and beyond. Check out Liza De Guia’s video on Food Curated to hear about SCRATCHbread’s vision in Matthew’s own words.

They’re making progress: The walk-up window at the shop is now open on Wednesdays from 4-8pm, and you can always find Matthew and the SCRATCHbread crew at Brooklyn Flea every Saturday. But they still need help getting the equipment they need to take SCRATCHbread to the next level.

They’re hosting a fondue and cocktail fund-raiser at the bakery tonight (December 7) from 5-9pm. A $10 donation will get you in the door for some SCRATCHfondue or a special cocktail concoction from Brooklyn Soda Works (think steaming bourbon orchard cider, or spiked lemon, thyme and green peppercorn-ade).

If you can’t make the fundraiser, we hope you’ll consider helping this worthy project by making a donation to their Kickstarter campaign. They’ve already raised $6,000 and have just three days left to raise the remaining $3,000 dollars to get the equipment they need. Any donation will help!
