PBS is making the leap into ‘good’ food TV, with the debut of Food Forward, a series profiling innovators and pioneers like urban farmers and beekeepers, and small-scale, quality-driven dairy, beef and veg farmers nationwide, who are producing healthy alternatives to factory-farmed fare. While films like Food, Inc. focused on what’s wrong with the food we eat, Food Forward aims to entertain and inspire with a look at the people doing it right.
The pilot episode, featuring a look at urban farmers in New York City, Oakland, Milwaukee and Detroit, airs on WLIW (channel 21 for most Brooklynites) on Wednesday April 18th at 3:30am, and again Sunday April 22nd at 2:30pm. We’re not sure where they’ll land in Brooklyn, but the series’ Facebook page features a great big photo of farmer Annie Novak doing her thing at Greenpoint’s Eagle Street Rooftop Farm.
