  • Between last Saturday, November 3rd and Wednesday, November 7th, Ditmas Park donated and distributed 20 bus loads of supplies and food throughout Far Rockaway, Coney Island and Gerritsen Beach, established a medical clinic, Veterinary MASH unit, delivered hot meals daily to four nursing homes and were the first responders new distribution points throughout the Hurricane Sandy most-affected areas. As a community, we have been overwhelmingly successful. But our work is not done. We have been on the ground daily, diagnosing the situation, determining the best next steps, conversing with community organizers and are now creating an effective plan of action to aggressively clean-up and restore small patches of New York’s worst hit areas. Our work is not done!

The team has recommitted themselves and we are planning on pushing out today (Saturday, Nov 10th) and Sunday morning at 10am for a clean-up effort going door-to-door in the most affected neighborhoods. Therefore I restate my initial clarion call for supplies, goods, food and volunteers. We need hundreds of individually packed lunches (sandwich, chips/pretzels and piece of fruit), cleaning supplies, bleach, batteries, tools, shovels, work gloves, hand sanitizer, face masks as well as diapers, baby cloths, baby food, blankets, non-perishable food, hats/gloves, new underwear for men and women, and feminine hygiene products. Please bring all donations to The Castello Plan at 1213 Cortelyou Road, anytime today (Saturday, Nov. 10th) from 8am to 6pm, we will load and re-load our buses as long as there are donations. If you are interested in volunteering or would like to discuss specific donations or large contributions, please contact ben@thecastelloplan.com.

  • We are still collecting food, water, batteries, flashlights, blankets (no clothes), medical supplies, soap, bleach, tools, flashlights, candles and all sizes of batteries. There is a storm coming, we have access to as many buses as needed and will continue to ship donations out to Far Rockaway as long as necessary. We just sent out our 15th bus load and every donation that we have collected thus far has been utilized. Please drop off any donation to 368 Stratford Road. Thank You. And re-post this message.

  • Staten Islanders (and fellow New Yorkers) need help!

Diapers, flashlights, batteries, towels, clothes, pet food,yard-cleaning equipment, blankets, water, food….

    Drop off anything you can:

    Today, November 3rd – Noon til 8pm.
At 368 Stratford Road, Brooklyn, NY 11218 (behind the old Vox Pop)

we need volunteers with cars and trucks to help deliver to donation depots in Staten Island tomorrow, Sunday, November 4th at 10am

I think this can be easy, no receipts, no tax deductions, no cameras, no politicians, no news.

We can get this done in a day.
