Bed-Stuy Farm Share

The Bed-Stuy Farm Share is a mutually beneficial partnership between local farms and our community. The farmer can both get a living wage and charge you less because he or she gets all of your food dollars rather than the small portion left after shipping, packaging and advertising costs at the grocery store. We prioritize purchasing produce from local farmers of color. It is also a community building initiative, encouraging neighbors with a common interest to meet and work together to improve our collective health and wellness. Members sign up and pay for a Farm Share in the early Spring. We do this so that the farmer can have the money she or he needs to purchase seeds, hire labor and get the season started without having to take out high interest loans. Our farmers deliver to Bed-Stuy once a week for 20-22 weeks out of the year starting in June. Our members pick up their shares and are expected to volunteer at least four hours over the course of the season to help keep the farm share running. Each week you receive 6-10 different certified naturally grown vegetables, enough for a family of four to have one vegetable per meal. The Farm Share brings you the vegetables that are in season, so they will change throughout the year! Our farmers grow: asian greens beets broccoli carrots chard collard greens cucumbers eggplant garlic green beans herbs kale lettuce mustard greens okra onions peas hot & sweet peppers potatoes radishes salad greens summer & winter squash tomatoes tomatillos turnips zucchini Our shareholders receive produce from African Zion Organic Roots Farm, Circle Mountain Farm, and Guerrilla Grown Produce. All of our farmers use organic growing methods and provide chemical-free and pesticide-free vegetables, and cage-free and hormone-free eggs. Full Vegetable Share: Income Above $24,000 $600 Income Below $24,000* $475 Egg Share 1 dozen per week $100 Administrative Fee: Covers the cost of printing, postage, transportation, tents, scales and supplies used in the distribution of shares. $25 Share cost is based on household income. Upper income members pay slightly more in order to subsidize shares of folks who cannot afford to pay as much. We accept checks, money orders, food stamps and WIC checks, NO credit card payments. Its that easy!  * We have a limited number of shares for low-income households, for which we prioritize people on fixed income and/or with public benefits, such as food stamps, SSI, unemployment and those living in public or subsidized housing.
