The Kinfolk crew describes themselves as, “a growing community of artists with a shared interest in small gatherings. We recognize that there is something about a table shared by friends, not just a wedding or once-a-year holiday extravaganza, that anchors our relationships and energizes us. We have come together to create Kinfolk as our collaborative way of advocating the natural approach to entertaining that we love.”
They’ve got a magazine and a touring dinner series too. The dinner series, they say, “is about inviting people to gather and take advantage of the rich community that already exists around them, opening up and drawing close to the people that share a common place. We aim to encourage collaboration amidst local artisans and small businesses.”
The Kinfolk ship recently landed on the shores of the Gowanus Canal, where they hosted this year’s Brooklyn dinner at The Green Building in Carroll Gardens, a 120 year old former brass foundry building that was renovated in 2008. The food was done by Jewels of New York, Diana Yen and Lisel Arroyo’s Brooklyn-based seasonal cooking and catering collaborative.
