Like the Brooklyn Dodgers and Luna Park, the Egg Cream is a Brooklyn classic that evokes a bygone era. Everyone has heard of an Egg Cream, but not many have actually had one…at least in the last 40 years or so. Take a step back into Brooklyn’s golden age by enjoying an ice-cold egg cream at the new Brooklyn Farmacy & Soda Fountain in Carroll Gardens (513 Henry St at Sackett St). Farmacy’s version of the classic drink is made with Hudson Valley Fresh milk, the old school U-Bet chocolate syrup, and seltzer (ironically, there is neither egg nor cream in an Egg Cream.) Farmacy also features ice cream sodas, shakes, sundaes, and a great selection of local and artisanal foods.

The shop itself occupies a storefront that was a pharmacy for nearly 100 years – it’s been meticulously restored and features much of the original detail. It’s worth a trip alone just to check it out the interior, but you might just get a free shake on us: This week we’re giving away six $10 Brooklyn Farmacy gift certificates to Nona members. If you’ve already signed up for Nona, just email info@nonabrooklyn.com with subject line ‘farmacy’ for a chance to win. If you haven’t signed up yet, do it now! Just enter ‘farmacy’ in the promo code field for your chance to win.
