Here are some cool events happening over the coming week:

Pie in the Park
Pie enthusiasts from all over Brooklyn will be busy baking over the next couple of days, as the annual Pie in the Park gathering takes place on Sunday in Prospect Park. Pie in the Park celebrates sweet pies, savory pies, fruit pies, veggie pies, meat pies … all kinds of pies! Suggested donations: $5 to enter a pie, $10 to eat lots of pie. See their Facebook page for details or to RSVP.
Sunday 8/15 at 1pm

A Night with the Locals
Brooklyn Beekeeper Meg Paska and chef Aimee Hunter are hosting a dinner and movie night at Pinkerton Wine Bar in Williamsburg on Wednesday. They’ll be creating a “5-course tasting menu using locally-sourced products (think produce from BK Farmyards and Eagle St. Rooftop Farms, Meat from the Meat Hook, Bacon Marmalade, Fresh bread from Roberta’s…you get the idea!)” Dinner will be followed by a screening of Woody Allen’s “Manhattan” (whose opening scene alone is a masterpiece.) The $25 fee gets you a five course tasting menu and your first glass of wine. Check out the menu and event details here (and we think they ARE worth checking out!)
Wednesday August 18, 8pm at Pinkerton Wine Bar (North 6th and Havemeyer in Williamsburg)

This week at The Brooklyn Kitchen: Oysters, Picnics, Pizza and Tomatoes
As just about always, The Brooklyn Kitchen is offering more great classes in the coming week. This week’s lineup includes Oysters 101, The Perfect Picnic, Pizza at Home and Cooking with Tomatoes. Details on each class are available on their website.

On the Farms
The Added Value Community Farms in Red Hook and on Governors Island are busy as usual over the weekend. Stop by the Red Hook farm on Saturday between 10am and 4pm to check out their produce at the market or to get your hands dirty farming. Or take the boat to Governor’s Island on Saturday or Sunday to buy fresh island produce or to volunteer (starting at 11am).

The Brooklyn Grange rooftop farm will be offering their rooftop organic produce and tasty salads at Brooklyn Flea every Saturday through the harvest season. You also can find their produce at these locations: Weekday On-Site Market – Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3pm-7pm in the lobby of the building housing the farm, 37-18 Northern Blvd, Queens. Saturday Farm Stand – Saturday, 11am-3pm at Vesta restaurant, 2102 30th Avenue, Astoria, NY. Sunday Farm Market – Sunday, 11am-5pm at Roberta’s, 261 Moore St, Brooklyn

BK Farmyards offers their own organic Brooklyn produce and eggs at their market each Wednesday at 600 Kingston Ave. (between Winthrop and Rutland) from 3pm-7pm.
Eagle Street Rooftop Farm is closed for a private event this weekend.
