Here’s a look at our picks for events happening in the coming week!

Introduction to City Chickens
Curious about raising chickens, but don’t know where to start? Join bk farmyards at their chicken headquarters for a free workshop. You’ll get to meet their hens while learning about building a coop and keeping happy and healthy birds in the BK. Find the full details here.

Thursday, July 14 from 5:30-7pm at Imani Garden, 91 Schenectady Avenue between Pacific and Dean Streets.

The Total 4th Avenue Immersion
For the latest installment of their street-centric pub crawls, Brooklyn Based and the Brooklyn Brewery take on 4th Avenue, where you’ll be able to snag complimentary beers from resident bars Mission Dolores, Cherry Tree, Pacific Standard and The Rock Shop.  You’ll also find deals at neighboring restaurants like South Brooklyn Pizza, Oaxaca, Littlefield and Sheep Station. All you have to do is pick up one of 500 immersion cards, available at Oaxaca (250 4th Ave) or Cherry Tree (65 4th Ave) starting at noon. Brooklyn Based has the full rundown.

Saturday, July 16 from 12-6pm on 4th Avenue.

Summer Closing Party
Art house The Invisible Dog wraps up its season with help from their next-door neighbors 61 Local, who’ll be providing their “Picnic in Provence” sandwich (Dickson’s Farmstand ham and horseradish pickles) plus locally made beer and wine. Also on hand will be sweet scoops from Steve’s Ice Cream, soon to open a new shop on Atlantic Avenue. Learn more here.

Saturday, July 16 from 1-10pm at The Invisible Dog, 51 Bergen Street between Smith and Court Streets.

The Brooklyn Ice Cream Takedown
The Bell House hosts another taste-off from the folks behind the Chili Takedown, and this one couldn’t be better for a hot summer afternoon (July 17 is actually National Ice Cream Day).  25 amateur churners will offer up their best frosty creations, and expect to see everything from mochi to jalapeno in the battle. Once you’ve overcome the ensuing brain freeze, vote on the people’s choice winner and see how it stacks up against the judges’ favorite—chosen by experts from Ample Hills Creamery, Van Leeuwen and Il Laboratorio del Gelato. Get tickets here.

Sunday, July 17 at 4pm at The Bell House, 149 7th Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues. $15.

Food Truck Rally
It’s almost the third Sunday of the month, which means hordes of mobile eateries will once again descend on Grand Army Plaza, thanks to the Prospect Park Alliance and the NYC Food Truck Association. Catch favorites like lobster rolls from the Red Hook Lobster Pound, Coolhaus ice cream sandwiches, and falafel from Taim Mobile.

Sunday July 17 from 11am-5pm at Grand Army Plaza.

Shoe Town to Brew Town: Craft Brewing Meets Green Development
Finally, your passion for sustainability and your love of beer have a common ground. Join Brooklyn Brewery for ”a fun and informed discussion of how breweries can be the centerpiece of a sustainable regional development plan. Attendees will include craft brewers, green designers and many others.” More information and tickets can be found here.

Tuesday, July 19 from 7:30-10pm. $40.
