Remember when the arrival of red-breasted robin or the emergence of those shocking green crocus shoots were the first harbingers of spring? Nowadays you know spring is lurking when the seasonal CSA buzz begins to percolate, stressing out those angling for the highly sought-after shares in many neighborhoods.

Carroll Gardens Patch kicks off the pre-season with a recap of the adventures of CSA membership and a roundup of some local CSA options.

Good news for those in CSA-starved Clinton Hill: Neighborhood favorite Ortine will be hosting a CSA with the Lancaster Farm Fresh Cooperative this season.

And if you’re one of those folks for whom the unpredictability of just what you’ll find in your weekly share is a problem, keep an eye on This Batch – a Boerum Hill-based company bringing a new twist to the CSA game. They’ll be notifying members of what’ll be arriving in each share, and offering them the ability to opt in (yay!) or out (boo!) each week.
