Appalachian is a perfect Thanksgiving cheese. It’s a cow milk variety from the folks at Meadow Creek Dairy in Southwestern Virginia. These makers of the beloved washed-rind superstar Grayson give us this buttery and smooth crowd pleaser.
Dunbarton Blue from the Roelli family of cheesemakers is another winner – another cow’s milk cheese from the heart of dairy country in Wisconsin. This has all the cheddar your guests are looking for with just a touch of the blue grandpa wants. Finally, two families sit down in agreement for Thanksgiving diner!
Livey Run Fresh Goat – we love a fresh goat cheese on any plate. This is as fresh as it gets! Brought down once a week from the Finger Lakes, it’s tangy in the way you dream of, and also spreadable but not without body. We love this on a bit of toasted bread or stirred in with some smashed potatoes.
Cheese loves beer! There is no end to the pairings. A wheat beer with the goat cheese or a great American IPA with the Dunbarton…I’d love to drink some Pretty Things Jack D’or or a Brooklyn Brewery Sorachi Ace with the Appalachian. And let’s not forget a bit of chocolate with a spill of Dogfish Head’s Fort for dessert!
