Dinner at Court Street Grocers
Court Street Grocers brings back its Friday Night Dinners to help kick off 2013. Tonight’s installment features five courses, including octopus with brussels sprouts and caesar vinaigrette, and bone marrow with BBQ sunchokes and bread & butter pickles. It’s BYOB, but they’ve got some handy wine recommendations from their neighbors Fat Cat Wines, alongside the full menu and reservation info, here.

Son of Booze and Schmooze
City Reliquary provides another good reason to venture out into the cold with its annual fundraiser featuring the finest local distillers, brewers and more. Sip unlimited drinks and nosh on all-you-can eat food, from participants including Kings County Distillery, Greenhook Ginsmiths, Rockaway Brewing Company, Saltie, The Meat Hook, Best Pizza and Oslo Coffee. Tickets include a take-home goodie bag, and proceeds benefit the City Reliquary.

MSG takes on MSG
Masters of Social Gastronomy is turning one year old, and for their anniversary edition they’re tackling the substance with which they share an acronym (no, not Madison Square Garden): monosodium glutamate. Sarah Lohman will trace MSG’s history back to its origins in traditional Japanese food; afterward, Jonathan Soma will discuss the flavor enhancer’s modern-day uses and decipher the myths and facts that surround it. Super Bowl BBQ at Sycamore
Plenty of bars and restaurants will be rolling out Super Bowl specials in the weeks to come, but for now, Sycamore‘s game-day shindig is looking tough to beat. The bar’s own Johnny Lupiani will be smoking up a ton of beef, pork and chicken, which will be served at half time in heaping portions with sides for $20. Buy a plate in advance at the bar or online.

How to…Prepare a Mexican Feast
Edible and the Brooklyn Brewery team up once again for the latest in their how-to series, a tutorial on south-of-the-border eats. You’ll learn to make corn and flour tortillas from the folks of Lonestar Taco, fiery salsa from the Brooklyn Salsa Company and refreshing paletas from La Newyorkina. As always, tickets are just $5, and Brooklyn Brewery beers will be flowing for $5 a pop.
